The following links provide outlines of the school system's building needs that are scheduled to be addressed in the 2002-2007 and 2007-2012 capital programs. These projects are being funded primarily through the one-percent special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) for schools.

For the 2002-2007 program, voters approved the extension on November 6, 2001, which allowed the school system to collect the penny in sales tax from July 1, 2002, through June 30, 2007. Shortfalls in SPLOST revenue prompted the school system to enter a lease/purchase agreement, which helped to compensate for lagging sales tax collections, and allowed GCPS to complete the list of projects.

For the 2007-2012 program, voters approved the extension on November 7, 2006, which allows the school system to continue to collect the penny in sales tax from July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2012.
